Well, it’s almost here…my quarter-century birthday is on Monday! Do I feel old? No. I feel like I’m old enough to be in a good place, but still young enough to do what I want without having too many responsibilities. Besides, you know, standard adult things like cleaning bathrooms. So, that’s a nice place to be.
Instead of blowing out 25 candles on a cake that would ruin the New Year’s Resolutions I never even made, I thought I would countdown 25 of my favorite things. These are in no particular order and no particular category…just 25 things I’m loving right now as a soon-to-be 25 year old. #YayMillennials
1. Dreamy Home Offices
Why have a boring home office when you can decorate however you want? Just say no to cube life.
2. Black, White & Gold Everything
In a kitchen or anywhere. Kitchens are my second favorite room to think about in my dream house, aside from my home office.
3. Copper Kitchen Accessories
Speaking of kitchens, copper kitchen accessories also make me drool. They’re everywhere now and metallics get me every time.
While we’re in the kitchen, we might as well enjoy some pizza. You’re never too old for pizza, and I still never got a pizza birthday cake. Wahh.
5. Grain Bowls, Bean Bowls and Really Anything in a Bowl
My favorite meal to make at home involves tossing anything I have in one bowl and calling it a balanced meal. Bonus points if I can make it in a slow cooker for lazy nutrition to the extreme. For the record, mine absolutely never look good. ^^
Obvi. I mean this one really needs no explanation.
Before and after brunch. Before bed. Never go without it.
8. Faux Fur Coats
I always want to wear faux fur, but I feel like Philly can’t handle all that sass. Plus, it’s been like 65 degrees until a few days ago.
9. Strawberry “Bronde” Hair
I brought this pic to my hair appointment last month, and the stylist said it was the hardest color to make, so it may not come out well. Time to get a new stylist, amiright?
10. Matte Nails
I can’t get enough of this look, so I may just have it done for my birthday on Monday 💁🏼💅
11. Tiny Tattoos
Since I got my first tattoo on my 18th birthday, I’ve wanted more tiny ones, but I never commit. 25th birthday gift to myself??
12. Designer Bags
I usually get away with some deals and steals when it comes to my wardrobe, but I always splurge on designer bags, and I don’t think that will ever change. Maybe Céline will come to my 30th birthday??
13. Adult Coloring Books
I didn’t think I would have the patience for coloring, but I tried it over the holidays, and it was actually super relaxing. I think I’m gonna stock up on supplies and try coloring before bed instead of burning out my retinas on my phone. #Mature
14. Lenny Letter
I said it before, and I’ll say it again—everyone should subscribe to Lenny Letter and get these hilarious, well-written, important essays in their inbox to balance out all the cat pics and promotional emails from 1242938429305 stores you’ll never shop at again.
15. Nonfiction Books
Yes, I really love reading, and nonfiction is my go-to genre. Buzzfeed Books keeps me up-to-date on what everyone’s reading and what I should read next.
16. Making A Murderer
I only started watching this so I could get in on the convos literally everyone has been having the past couple weeks, but now I’m addicted. The true story is SO insane and unbelievable, and this team does an excellent job at presenting information in such a way that you get whiplash from your feelings changing drastically at the end of every episode. They certainly have mastered the cliffhanger, and this show has been my life for the past week. Can you say Netflix and Chill, like for real though?
Just podcasts, any podcasts. I used to think this medium was only for weirdos, but I’ve realized they’re a godsend during long road trips—especially if you’re by yourself—and while you’re working out if you hate the gym like me. My favorites are Serial, TEDTalks and Freakonomics Radio, soo yeah I guess I’m just one of the weirdos now.
For when I’ve binged too hard on Making A Murderer and Serial, and I need to chill before I go off on a rant that alienates everyone around me. This one is actually more of something I would love to do, but don’t really do right now unless it’s during and/or after yoga. I’d like to get in the habit of mediating a few times a day, so my heart is less likely to explode at any given moment.
19. Not Having Kids
Right now, I really love not having kids. I hope you don’t take offense to that if you’re all about reproducing, and I appreciate you continuing the life of the human race, but it feels great to not have that responsibility when I see kids running around the mall or pretty much anywhere. To me, they’re kind of like lion cubs at the zoo…they’re super cute, and I like to look at them from afar, but I am not trying to have them come home with me and tear up my apartment. Sorry kiddos.
20. Michael B. Jordan
Someone I would like to get a closer look at this year is Michael B. Jordan. Hot damn, that is a beautiful man! That face, that smile, the talent, the style…#swoon. 😍😍😍
21. Rescue Pups
Although I can’t get down with having children, I can definitely get down with allllllll the rescue pups. My pup Sadie is my bestie fo life, and I can’t wait to rescue some furry siblings for her in the future.
22. Winter Whites
I’m all about wearing white during winter and rocking a monochromatic look. Following the old school rules of fashion is just silly…it’s called personal style for a reason, people. There are no rules.
23. Draft Latte
24. Alone Time
Something else I can never get enough of is alone time, which is the exact opposite of how I used to feel during my teenage and college years. This is the only one that makes me think, “hm…maybe I am getting old…”
